weecunny Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about
Guest frank dooman Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 i did 2 years ago i dont want any that iam not sure of last year i took in only 2 stock birds but they spent 3 weeks in quarentine no harm to anyone but i think thats how most things are spread
Guest strapper Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about why stop there..why not stop racing too...sale birds dont come into contact with other birds as racebirds do in a basket and they come from everywhere!
Guest Davy Fleming Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 You are right cunny but this issue is far too wide spread and banning it on the site wouldn't even scratch the surface to resolving the problem and also there is now far to much money involved
sammy Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 lets go the whole hog and ban racing as well as they are all mixed in with strangers
scottym7 Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about Hi I hope this will not happen to soon as i am just starting up and only have seven late breeds that were gifted to me, I have bee showing pigeons for 5 year now but decided to have a go at the racing next year (amount of birds allowing) Scotty M
weecunny Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 and where do u think the sale birds come from sombodys hut most race birds only spend a nite together but sale birds are with ur own birds for a few weeks at least . would say thats where it all starts
Guest Davy Fleming Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 Wouldn't worry about it scotty cause it won't happen
weecunny Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 u got it davey it no a hobby noo lolcheeper ti run a car lollllllllll
thunderboult Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about it's not sales of birds that's caused all the illness going about, sales have always gone on. more than likely over use of drugs, resulting in lack of immunity and breeding from birds like that.
Guest frank dooman Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 i dont think we should ban anything but i will safe guard my self by not taking them from all over so just do the same no need to go for a forced ban
weecunny Posted November 2, 2009 Author Report Posted November 2, 2009 so how do u no if the bird for sale was reared on drugs
thunderboult Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 so how do u no if the bird for sale was reared on drugs you don't, and there's the problem.
Guest strapper Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 it's not sales of birds that's caused all the illness going about, sales have always gone on. more than likely over use of drugs, resulting in lack of immunity and breeding from birds like that. i wouldnt say its the over use of drugs but the unexperienced person using the drugs. also the hygiene levels may have gone down too.not saying my lofts a palace but have seen some that could do with taking down.
rob09 Posted November 2, 2009 Report Posted November 2, 2009 so how do u no if the bird for sale was reared on drugs but u can tell if a bird has been sick that year on day of sale
Guest IB Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 If you have no birds to begin with, banning sales & gift birds would make it a tad hard for people to start up? I think you must bring in pigeons ~ it's part & parcel of improving your stock. But bringing in new pigeons does have risks, and that is why no matter how good the source, all new introductions should always spend at least a week in quarantine, with no contact with your birds, before they are given the run of your loft. Not only for your own birds' sake, but for the new birds too ~ yours might be carrying something 'normal' for them which is 'new' to incomers and could knock them off-colour. They all need time to adjust to the change.
blaz Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about i have given away a good few gift birds and sold one or two.not 1 bird has left my loft unless in PERFECT health. if it was banned the one or two would not be racing as not everyone can,t afford to buy birds to replace birds lost or to better their team.
Guest valiant Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 i wil be selling a round of van veets next season for the first time all top peds and breed fed winners this season.
Thimbles Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about Does this mean you wont be gifting me birds for a few years now haha
Thimbles Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 so how do u no if the bird for sale was reared on drugs By its dilated pupils
Thimbles Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 weecunny has a good point every loft has its own viruses and diseases in it no matter how clean you keep it so if you get birds from all different loft your just adding to the pot.And just because u quarantine your birds for several weeks it does not mean its safe as the bird may be a carrier who shows no signs of ill health but will soon spread it round your birds its a good subject but il still take gift birds lol
Guest lenwadebob Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 what about banning the sale of birds and gift birds for a few year.bet there would be a lot less ill birds going about Personally I feel the biggest cause of illness in birds is down to overcrowding. The vast majority of us house far too many birds in order to overcome the ever increasing pitfalls our birds have to encounter whilst exercising around the loft, training and racing.
dwh Posted November 3, 2009 Report Posted November 3, 2009 its down to you to judge wats good or bad new stock should always be quarentined anyway no matter where you get them from and how do you prevent gift birds most men send their own rings down tgo save transfering them
