VAGIN Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 After thinking about yesterdays race my 1st bird trapped like a bullet, the 2nd bird which was 4 mins later flew around for 10 mins then had another 10 mins on the roof and was very nervious every other bird was acting in the same manner nervious a very jumpy. My returns were good at the end of the day On reading most of the threads on birds returns the majority of fanciers were having the same problems at diffrent locations all over the country, surely this could not be a coincidence. Any views on this matter Thankyou
chichichi Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 we had the same last week,, but our 1st bird sat on loft for 4 mins,, but 2nd bird trapped in seconds,, there was a falcon around us about 10 mins before the birds came so put it down to this,, we don't know half the things the birds have to overcome to get home,, a chase from a falcon or a near miss on wires will frighten them and this makes them very nervous when trapping.. goodluck ant
VAGIN Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 This was the 6th race for most off the birds
pjc Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Like Ant says something has upset them enroute or even there could have been something different in a neighbours garden etc, even washing blowing on a line! It doesn't take much to put them on edge! Phil
VAGIN Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 I understand what you are saying Phil But i was not the only one in the club this was happening too If you check the race returns thread it seems too happened in all parts of the uk It was happening in Lanarkshire I live 220 mls from Lanarkshire What am trying too say is does anyone see a pattern or is it just me
Peckedhen Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Mine were edgy and loath to trap once. There were cat paw prints on the sputnik so, presumably the cat had been looking at the birds, at some time, before I let them out. Little wonder they were reluctant to trap.
pjc Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Were there any sudden changes in atmospheric preasures yesterday?
Guest cloudview Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 the one thing i did notice yesterday was the sun and moon were out together
pjc Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 It would be nice to see a study undertaken of everything that happens on a race day including all details, but mainly looking at atmospheric changes, position of the sun and moon etc as I beleive this has a big part to play in how races turn out!
VAGIN Posted August 24, 2008 Author Report Posted August 24, 2008 I remember reading a piece in the H.W. by Round O, his theory was never race a bird when you can see the sun and moon at the same time its more likely to end up in disaster
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 what a lot of fanciers are not saying is they are putting later bred young in then moan as they lose them
pjc Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 That has been mentioned many times Vagin, but overall yesterday returns seem to have been good.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 what a lot of fanciers are not saying is they are putting later bred young in then moan as they lose them sorry jumped in there youngsters get wound up as we know full of energy so twithy you get thrown out of car 100 milrs away and find way home you would be stressed to say the least and to have 1000 others round you scarey watch as they learn and relax they enjoy it and trap well
