Guest IB Posted March 8, 2009 Report Posted March 8, 2009 I know by 'training' you are talking about roadwork, but for me training starts as soon as they step out of the nest bowl at a couple of weeks old, when I start calling them to the pot placed in the box for feeding. Thats followed by the same to the feeder when they are split to the YB end, and when they are doing that OK, basket training starts, which is eating, drinking, sleeping in the basket, then onto door training, when they are taken outside to sit in front of the loft while the OBs are out, then when they come in, the YBs are released further and further from the door - all the time I'm behind them calling them in (to the feeder) and following them to make sure they go through the ETS trap, at a run and without any hesitation.. Only after that is finished, and they are flying through the door, are they allowed to walk out the door themselves, reckon around 8 weeks old? Advice I've been given on training: earliest start is when the eye changes colour. Jury is out on ranging though, mine go out 6am and disappear for at least an hour, and that's what I personally want them to do; been told not to train when they are doing that, and my training usually starts around 10 days before 1st race, 10 miles then provided no probs, on to 20 miles. Also do my training in evening, up around 7pm, and bee-line for home. This year training again with a clubmate who flies further than me, for break-training.
