PETER KUYPER Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Can anyone help me with this Question.
Guest Davy Fleming Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Have only very recently heard about this lightening system but know nothing what so ever about it but would like to know
pjc Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 darkness if lightness means pulling flights!
PETER KUYPER Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 Yes can anyone help on this lighting systam.?
pjc Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 search for "power moult" i beleive there is an article on the forum about it.
jimmy white Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 basicly both are the opposite .i,e the darkening system is to fool the birds into thinking its winter , until they have a full body moult , but retain their nest flights the lightening system is to fool the birds it is summer , so they have a full moult,,,[this could poss involve more] ,,in both these systems the yb,s will have a second moult my preference would be for yb racing is the darkness system,
PETER KUYPER Posted September 7, 2009 Author Report Posted September 7, 2009 Anymore help. ie .Time to put the light on. ect
pjc Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 Its a system that is used a lot in USA and you may find more information on an American site.
Guest cloudview Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 definitely , darkness , reason being is that the birds are forced to rest which has got to be more beneficial than being in a light ed room constantly moving about fighting etc etc no need to lighten yet untill the season moves on a bit ie when the nights are longer than the days

Colsacre Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 For the past 2 years I have done a darkness system where by I darken the birds early MAY for ONLY 4 weeks. The birds will carry on with a fairly normal moult of their primary flights, but go through a complete body moult. ADVANTAGES - less time on the system - birds can be flown out in early summer evenings and mornings, not sitting in dark - body feathers in good condition throught racing - birds cast all primaries by end of autumn, no lights needed to push moult. DISADVANTAGE - primary flights missing during racing season.
kev43 Posted September 7, 2009 Report Posted September 7, 2009 i thought the lighting system was 2 stop moult i,e put the lights on a timer so the lights come on at say 10pm and stay on till 4am 2 stop the moult mayb i am wrong
