just been thinking about something people say you got be on darkness for 8 10 weeks well if you do what you done pair boxing day and they go on nat darkness they are on it for 6 weeks as the clocks change end of march so i cant see point in breeding early when you can have them bred later in the year and still do the 6 week darkness this way its less work corn bills ect and you  are still having the same out come

yeah i agree. i used to pair up early december but dont see the point. i will be pairing everything up in january breeders and racers all youngsters will go onto the darkness and will start training a lot earlier than i have done in the past.

really looking forward to pairing up though.

you could pair later if you wanted but it depends on how many you want off stock birds tho my self personally will pair in feb have a round on darkness to fly in the races but my birds for the year after will be bred later left on nat and just trained to about 50 to 60 miles and just left to moult and mature to many good birds lost as ybs i think well look at brom all his best dont get raced as ybs makes you wonder

never tried the darkness system...i always thought it was because they couldnt afford the electric ;) ;D ;D

but seriously..i wouldnt mind trying the darkness but i have a system which darkness may not suit me..what time would you lighten up the loft am? and darken it pm?

i pair up early not to get early young birds but to breed then get my widowhood cocks in good form for racing season . and it all depends on what time you have with your birds last year i was working loads of hours so wouldnt be able to get my birds on darkness as i was on call 24 hours a day so never knew when id be there so i paired up early so they went on natural darkness and to feed 35 birds a month is not a lot lol

very true rambo each to is own i spose i can understand your cercumstances u can do it to suit your self strapper eg 9to5 8to4 or 7to3 but you can do at your own way depending on work ect 13 hours darkness is the limit i do it 13 hours darkness for 6weeks

i have changed jobs now so am home with the birds all day so will do darkness this year but last year when i was on call couldnt as never new when i was going to be home and as im only 31 you have to earn the money whens its there . but its at my age trying to earn a living and trying to compete with the birds as well so some times the birds have to fit round you

did'nt darken them last year and we could'nt compete with them on the dark.shutters go up16:oo come down 07:00.

i must say youngsters on dark look bigger & more robust
