Guest asha Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Hi Trev, You will find the L&L Schumann family of long distance racers were in fact direct decendents of birds imported into America from Col Osman, the original"Squills" of the Racing Pigeon paper. These small /medium birds became unbeatable once the distance hit500-600mile +,breaking every record in the book. Morris Gordon clocked 600mile day birds eight years on the trot, which has never been acheived since. LaVerne Schumann bought these osmans from Gordon, andwon 500,600,800 and even 1000 mile races. I am not certain, but remember Colin osman bringing some of these american osmans back into england 70`s time to strengthen his london based team. Hope this helps
Guest Posted October 21, 2008 Report Posted October 21, 2008 Sorry have I missed the thread somewhere appears to be a reply to Trev? Anway I believe the most successful current fancier over here with them, is Ray Barrington of Wellington, Somerset. He has in the last few years won the BBC not sure whether they are his Schumann's or other distance blood he has brought in. He has flown very well with them though and is a very good long distance fancier.
