this is just the way we have raced hens succesfully on the dark is by darkening them from the beginning of march, hours of light 9am-4pm, and are taken of the dark 3 weeks before the race you feel is most important and you want your hens to excel at. Ive found hens on the dark are always better sitting for the first race before beginning parted and put on the widowhood, but this is just my own preference, as i know many fanciers having old hens on the dark will not allow them to rear at all untill the national,
