Ok appologies if this has been asked before but i want to know if i can run one cock through 10 hens. The problem being is i dont have cocks for the hens and i want them all to hatch about the same time .Now i am thinking of a bull like system but without the other cocks will this work?I am also thinking i will have to replace one egg with a dummie egg if i can get the hen to sit by herself.Anyone done this or similar before? any help would be gratefull.Ive only 8 cocks and 30 hens in my whole team i wont be breeding from all the hens but some deserve the chance .I will also be looking for help when it comes to racing as my cocks are to good not to race but with so many hens i need to be looking at a system that allows me to race both.(maybe lesbian hens racing to each other ) again any help appreciated.

HI Ron,

if i remember correctly, you only started back last year with youngsters,is this so?,if yes,i would not bred to many youngsters off these 8 cocks and 30 hens, because chances are you could easily lose the lot if your too eagernext spring and if you get get cold east winds training,it will destroyall your plans.

Forget the bull system,no point for you at this time, maybe in a few years if you find something special in your cocks loft.

Easy ideal would be pair your 8 cocks to what you fancy, and get yourself the 16 babies, leave these birds sitting quetly beginning of the season, while your 22 celibate hens take the lions share of the racing, and as long as you are sensible, and keep away from the cold north east winds early season, those hens will compete well right through the seson, reek them every week, unless any get hurt,.

After the 8 pairs of naturals have wqeaned off the babies/ie your young bird team, you can put the 8 hens in with the celibate hens, and the cocks can racelike a kind of widow setup.

               Best of luck my boy

this year was my first real oldbird season(i only had three birds last year) the reason behind my thinking is i have a cock that has scored near on every club race inland took a channel card as well on his only channel race.He took 2nd fed(1400 birds) after refusing to come in for over five min's(Trapping has been a real problem for me this year with old and young birds but think that is sorted now thanks to Old yellow ) i only took two youngsters of him this year one was reported dead 5 mile away and the other has been very consistant.

Ben out of them 8 cocks 5 will be two year olds next year and 3 will be yearling's.4 of the five have took a club card including a few fed cards so really wanted to keep them on widowhood for next year all though i wont be racing them the first few race's i will be using the hens like you said.I just wanted to get a big young bird team(40 youngbirds is my target) so i'm not in the same boat this time next year. Also a couple of them cocks will be saved for the national and a couple of open race's i have in mind.
