paddymac Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 NIPA brought their races forward for this weekend due to the possibility of bad weather. The YBs were in Talbenny in Wales and also in Tullamore in central Ireland. Weather today in Ireland was mostly cloudy but visibilty was good,. however conditions on the channel were not so favourable and the YBs at Talbenny were held over. This is were the problem starts. Members who took the time to phone the lib-line service were informed that no decision would be made about the YBs in Tullamore :-/ WHY until they had a decision about the YBs in Talbenny, a totally different race :-/, The result being that they liberated the YBs at Tullamore at 2:00pm this afternoon when the cloud was closing in and for YBs flying into the Northwest of Ireland was an absolute disgrace. Rewind the clock to 2005, same race point, same organisation, liberation time 2:30pm, absolute nightmare half the convoy failed to return. With decisions like this its no wonder that we have fanciers leaving the sport and I use the word sport liberly. This is not sour grapes as I managed to win my club and in the top ten in the fed ( not bad for my 1st YB race ) Shame on you NIPA
ch pied Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 should have been up at 11.00 , 1.00 at the latest , not fair on the bird's or NW fancier's
paddymac Posted August 29, 2008 Author Report Posted August 29, 2008 Totally agree ch pied. Returns in the N/West are very poor tonight.
red1chq3 Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 I think it fair to say that returns overall were very poor, I.m flying into the east side. Its absolutly diabolical to have held those birds till two o'clock, no excuses Fred. I wonder if any of the transport commity or anyone could or should i say would, provide the real reson as to why we waited till two????.
ch pied Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 this being a comeback race , a lot of first timers in it , and by what iam hearing from around the club's , returne's wise , its JAFU
pearse1888 Posted August 30, 2008 Report Posted August 30, 2008 aye its a joke 2 o clock is to late it was better earlier on that morning there is no excuses i dont have a clue what there playing at and the birds from returns down here in derry were very bad > > >
paddymac Posted August 30, 2008 Author Report Posted August 30, 2008 Thanks Pearse, can't let you and your Dad have all the glory :P only joking, its only because you and your Dad took the time to train the birds for me for the past Month when I was stuck at work on day duty. Thanks to both of you, appreciate you time. Pat
ticeye Posted August 31, 2008 Report Posted August 31, 2008 hi paddymac i think the reason for a late lib was as fred said in a previous friday race " to let the workers get home so they do not lose any wages" no mention of the welfare of the pigeons i sent 16 first timers to this race which have had between 30 to 40 training tosses from dundalk 40 mls and got 2 on the day and 7 on saturday my last pigeon arrived at 19-30 sat night and had 2 strays with her strangely both from derry 1from foyle hps and the other from maiden city i have them in hen boxes in the garage feeding them up a bit as they were badly flown if the weather clears up and the birds are in reasonable shape i will get them liberated near ballymena
paddymac Posted August 31, 2008 Author Report Posted August 31, 2008 Appreciate what you are saying ticeye, but when Fanciers knew that it was going to be a Friday liberation they had two choices, 1: Do not send. 2: arrange to have time off work and send their ybs. simple option. I was the same as yourself as it was my first yb race of the year, out of 26 ybs I got 6 on the day and a further 4 yesterday which still leaves me 16 missing. What annoys me is that they done the exact same thing in 2005 with the same result, half the convoy going missing which is an absolute disgrace and as you said for Fred Russell to try and justify it by saying they had to accomodate people who are working is a f--king joke. It goes to show that they have no respect for any fanciers in the n/west. When his little pigeons are all safely home in Dromore he tends to forget that our YBS still have to contend with the hardest part of their journey stuck behind the Sperrin Mountains trying to dodge the preditors.
