tigerpomfret Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Now that Spain has closed shop for us.and it looks ever likely no water races (south) for a couple of years, the old saying goes"every cloud has a silver lining"could this be the perfect time to start up a distance family,no pressure to race the babies, letting them grow on,with a few single ups, next year those babies will have grown on beautiful because of no stress from us fanciers useing motivation systems. Paired up next year,as yearlings, steady single ups from up to 50 miles, what a physically, and probably mentaly well prepared kit of birds you would have when the distance stuff starts up in a couple of years time. What say all you distance minded people out there/,i`m very intrested in your comments. Could this possible be the breakthrough the bicc, bbc been looking for,now no aspiring distance boys can`t get pressured into racing babies on power systems to try to keep up with the pro lobby, who only have the selling market in their thoughts, not the advancement of long distance british racing
Guest Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 Was thinking the same, but I will give this years YBs a few 200 milers next year as yearlings for the future. Its this years yearlings Im worried about and my 2, 3 and 4 year olds that ive been keeping for the distance, a few will go to stock and a few to the big pigeon loft in the sky.
mark Posted March 8, 2006 Report Posted March 8, 2006 i cant see any over seas races now or the near future land races here we come. expect a few more phone calls as well with regard to people reporting stray pigeons amtrax will be happy.

Guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hi In Pigeon Racing it is best never to guess anything and that means also to sumise there will not be any water races for a couple of years or so. 'Patience'is the name of the game with pigeons and quite a lot is lacking of that from some of the members, on the way they keep guessing what will happen regards this problem Just wait and see. thats all anyone of us can do not jump to conclusions The above is meant in a nice way and there is wisdom in those words which may in a later date come in handy Ex_Pat
Guest shadow Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Personally I would not start to put together a distance family this season I would be content to fly inland and see how things develop. Being very pessimistic we may not see channel racing for some time depending on how the avian flu progresses. "Shadowood Lofts"
Guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hi Rose We too like the long distance races, and do not compete in Sprints Not for a fair time. Personally for us the days are over when you have to wait 4 years old to compete in the long races. Ours will have to fly it at two and three or go down thats the wa\y it is now over in Holland and Germany and Belgium they expect there Yearlings to race to 500 miles plus. By the way. I may be down below if i wait for pigeons to get to 4 years old before they race long distance. The type of pigeon has changed somewhat from 50 years ago, they are faster, and carry on flying much longer and i expect you have noticed the same. 'NOT MEANING' that you are as old or well worn as me Plus Remember you lads that at the present time Racing can be done through BELGIUM, at the present time, The Belgians have agreed on this so water racing can at the moment go ahead if not through France Ex_Pat
Guest shadow Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Nothing is set in stone if belgium have any cases of bird flu they will soon close the door and if god forbid we get any cases racing in uk could stop if Defra degrees it only time will tell. "Shadowood Lofts"
Guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hi Shadow If you read my letter correctly then you will see that i said 'At the Present Time' Meaning if there is any problems in Belgium or England then of course it would not go ahead. Nothing is ever set in Stone. And by the way i do know what is happening in Belgium at this Moment. I happen to Live there Ex-Pat
Guest Posted March 9, 2006 Report Posted March 9, 2006 Hi Rose Look at the Barcelona International result. Under most circumstances the race is becoming a lot quicker That is the winners and the result is finished by the second day most times. Years ago it was open for a week. That is what i mean by pigeons being faster. AS you know THe NFC plan to race from Belgium if France is out. And the Belgians have agreed unless there is a problem before the races. As for the Belgain Fanciers mothing has yet been arranged except racing in Belgium Of which we ourselves will not bother with a lot. Up to this time we have not paired the racers up, Like you We wait and see, No one can change what the powers to be decide Ex_Pat
