in my opinion westy ,i would use your stall traps, you can get the ring off the bird without frightening it,[i you frighten it, it wont come in the following week, they never forget]  the open door is an exellent fast way of trapping, but for a beginner i would say the traps, as with the open door ,if its not done perfectly, and a bird flys back out, youll have trouble, you could allways practise both ways whilst training.

Thanks Jimmy.

I'll  just have to wait till they are ready to fly themselves -Then when they do fly I won't know where they are,  then I'll have something to really worry about! ;D

LOL.  I have to say the fantails are a darned site easier.....feed them once a day and that's it - they pretty much look after themselves, they didn't need teaching where they live and the youngsters haven't got lost yet - they just never go out of site of the loft!! ;D ;D

they are trapping ok for now not brilliant,

but i have noticed with the open door is that they do fly straight in from the sky into the loft floor, & this could be of value for racing, as they land on loft roof b4 going through the trap.

okay i will bear that in mind jimmy well at the moment all ybs apart from 1 are using the trap. so i will get them trained to it so when i am school my dad can take them training and let them go and then they can go through the trap that is the only thing that is going to stop me at the moment.
