HE HAD A TRAPPING TABLE OUT SIDE THE LOFT THAT HAD A SHEET OF GLASS WITH CORN UNDER IT, HIS BIRDS ALWAYS GOT THERE TREATS FEED ON IT AND HE WOULD JUST PICK UP ALL THE BIRDS IN TURN THE PUT THEM BACK DOWN, THIS WAS HOW HE TIMED IN EVERY WEEK, ROUTINE, ROUTINE, ROUTINE, RAY
Chatrace Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 feed just inside the trap has always word here Just took a photo today of the new YBs and you will see some of the feed right on top of the hopper infront of the traps, but when they jump in mine the EST has them clocked
Chatrace Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 if you look close you will see the clocking pads in the tunnel and the bobs. They are using them already and only been here for a week. Will take the straw out as soon as I see no one is squriting.
Guest speckled Posted April 6, 2006 Report Posted April 6, 2006 Nice Chatrace, Y/B look, well i like the set up,do ya palce it ontop of the feeder. ;D (or do i act dumb) Speck. ;D ;D
Chatrace Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 do ya palce it ontop of the feeder? Only when they are first learning to jump inside through the traps from the Landing board. On race day there will be a bit of safflower on the lid also :-)

MsPigeon Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 Chatrace, What is at the center of the loft? Looks like a drop off in the center? Carol
MsPigeon Posted April 7, 2006 Report Posted April 7, 2006 I have a new trapping problem. It's not my YB's but a pair of OB's. I have an enclosed landing board with a door to keep cats etc. out that I keep closed after the birds trap. And the trap is a drop chute type. Well this one pair of OB's learned how to go up the chute and make themselves right at home in their own private room when the landing board door is closed. So I put a stop to that by putting a block of wood over the drop hole when the trap is closed. But now the two of them have been staying out, sneaking in to eat and right back out before the others have trapped. They are looking for places outside to nest. I keep chasing them out of those nesty places and stand watch to shut the trap as soon as they are in now. I have lots of nest boxes inside the loft not taken, but they seem bent on finding their own private place. Should I lock them in a nest box? Should I just make sure they are not both out exercising at the same time? Any suggestions? I want them to be happy IN THE LOFT!
Chatrace Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 Chatrace, What is at the center of the loft? Looks like a drop off in the center? Carol yes we built up a 2 foot high by 2 foot wide area all around the walls. One it is better for cleaning ,no bending over the whole way to the floor and also the same for catching the birds. By them being up closer they get use to your hands and arms being close and calm down when your in the section you can see the whole loft as it was being built on this site. http://hometown.aol.com/chatrace2001/NewLoft.html

westy Posted April 8, 2006 Author Report Posted April 8, 2006 JUST LIKE GOING TO SCHOOL WESTY EASY BUT YOU GOT TO GO TO SCHOOL IN THE FIRST PLACE TO LEARN I AM ALWAYS AT SCHOOL NOW WHEN I GET A CHANCE AT SCHOOL I POP ON HERE.
Peckedhen Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I AM ALWAYS AT SCHOOL NOW WHEN I GET A CHANCE AT SCHOOL I POP ON HERE. Sure you've got this the right way round Westy? Shouldn't it read, 'I AM ALWAYS ON HERE NOW WHEN I GET A CHANCE I POP TO SCHOOL?' LOL I have a question - I have been putting the young birds on the landing board with the sputnik closed so they have to stay out a while, they are 5 1/2 weeks old but, they don't fly or anything - just sit there until I open the sputnik, then they are in like a shot! What is the next stage? Do I just leave them to fly in their own time? :-/
