antwerptom03 Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Morning all, Do you folks handle you're birds differently the week leading up to a hundred mile race as apposed to a 300? I would guess the pre race feeding would be a bit different but what about loft flying and training? Thanks Tom
stevebelbin Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Its still a sprint race really, so same feed for mine unless a head wind is predicted, then they will get a few peanuts and hemp starting from tuesday. And the day of basketing they would get as food as they want, due to being in the basket a day extra.
Guest Posted July 19, 2006 Report Posted July 19, 2006 Tom I feed them barley until thursday, give them as much mix as they want, then on friday I give the 1/2 ration.
Guest speckled Posted July 20, 2006 Report Posted July 20, 2006 mine are fed a 50/50 mix, on friday mornig. half deputative, half race mix, during the week thay are feed on depurative as stevebelbin says feed for the wind, :-/ but at shut a short distance.i think 50/50 will be fine it the longer races, ya need to adjust the feed. :-/ :-/ handling the birds, ;D ;D mine are used to it .as i have to handle them to get them of me shoulder head lol ;D ;D

antwerptom03 Posted July 27, 2006 Author Report Posted July 27, 2006 I remember reading somewhere that loft flying/training should be restricted in the last few days before basketing for a sprint race. Anyone here keep'um locked up the last few days before a sprint??? Tom

Guest Posted August 3, 2006 Report Posted August 3, 2006 yeah keep the ybs going they need it as they are full of life just like young kids a 100 mile race is hardly nothing realy to a yb or ob should be still full of life when they return
