Guest CS Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 how long would you race a pigeon till you retire him/her ? We retired a Louella Janssen (Florvoot) hen about 6 years old, she had won 7 x 1 prizes.........
Wiley Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 it all depends really mate if his a sprint pigeon won quiet a few races, topped the federation, and all the lines are right,id give him normally 3-4 years on the road.If his distance id say 5 yrs would be enough personnally for me
schouwman71 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 i would really go on how the pigeons is performing year after year,if he starts coming behind its loft mates or starts to fly around before entering the loft, then i would stop him and put him to stock, providing he is bred from the best and holds a good racing record.
birdman55678 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I agree with both Wiley and Schouwman71, it totally depends on the bird, in some cases I have retired birds only two years old because I needed it for a breeder. So I guess if your heavy on breeders you could fly the better birds longer. Ed
