jimmy white Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 on the odd occasion ive bred pigeons with eleven flights , some of these had eleven flights on one wing only,, this did not seem to effect their racing , as some were quite good ones [not all] but had one particularly good one, does anyone know about this peculuarity, it must be genetic somehow as these were of the same family, but allways wondered about this :) any veiws
westy Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 never eard of it but will be an interesting topic.
Mike Lycett Posted November 26, 2006 Report Posted November 26, 2006 Our "Assassin" is eleven flighted in both wings 9 races - won £2000.00 - 2 MNFC races and in top 25 Open of both. Stopped as a yearling & put to stock. He's not looked back either
jimmy white Posted November 26, 2006 Author Report Posted November 26, 2006 hi mike, have you found any other eleven flighted birds bred ?, related to "assassin" extra flights not done him any harm anyway ;D ;D ,,,i had one with eleven flights just in the one wing , would have thought it would have knocked it off balance , but this particular bird did really well, won a few bob also ;D
Chatrace Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I have had a few come into my oneloft races they do well I always wanted them in my white birds as I thought they would circle more :-)
jimmy white Posted November 27, 2006 Author Report Posted November 27, 2006 ;D ;D ;D ;D clockwise ;D ;D ;D
Mike Lycett Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 We've had plenty of good 11 flighters over the years - but they normally only have 11 in one wing. Assassin chucks em pretty much every year & when he does those ones tend to be just that bit better
Guest anthony Posted November 27, 2006 Report Posted November 27, 2006 I think it is genetic.Ihave an eleventh flight cock,he breeds eleventh flights in every nest,I cant say he is better not worse, the wing looks more full
birdman55678 Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 I personally have only seen one with 11 flights, it also flew well but I didn't own it. I have looked for more thrrough the years but with no luck. Ed
Guest Vic Posted November 28, 2006 Report Posted November 28, 2006 Hi Guys, In the sixties, I introduced a grizzle cock into my distance family and within a few years, I had numerous 21 & 22 primary flighted pigeons. One bird in particular was an excellent racer carying 11 flights on one wing. I sold him when he was past racing, and he bred many winners for the fortunate buyers. (now flying a good bird into Southport). I have also had pigeons over the years with 13 tail flights, but never 14. Personally I dont think EXTRA FLIGHTS are adventageous, but that is only my opinion. Vic.
jimmy white Posted November 29, 2006 Author Report Posted November 29, 2006 i asked this question in the beginning as it was sir colin 2cnd nat , that bred the very odd bird with eleven flights , allways just on one wing, in all the years he bred he threw about 6 of these type birds one of them scoring also in national, yet never had any[ that i know of] further down the line
