paul10121968 Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 i am about to attempt weaning my first round of youngsters, they are 29 days old,i have been introducing them to the drinker over the last few days which has been succesful, and all of them are still being fed by their parents,a few of my hens have started laying their second round and i felt that now would be a good time to start.is it best to let the youngsters discover the feeding troughs themselves or should i introduce them to corn myself.i have a young bird mixture to feed them with.

Guest Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 i usualy have pots of feed in the boxes that they learn to feed from annother option is to wean them to the y/b loft and put in some of the hens to feed them for a couple of days they will soon follow the hens to the feeder

paul10121968 Posted February 4, 2009 Author Report Posted February 4, 2009 never had a hen lay 3 probably find its another hen jumped into the box and laid or 2 hens paired to 1 cock i do have a hen who is sitting 1 egg only it was probably her who laid in there.she is in a box directly below.i had assumed that the egg had been carried out somehow while exercising.call me a dillan if you like.
Guest Posted February 4, 2009 Report Posted February 4, 2009 just float one of the eggs back to the other pair if the were laid at the same time otherwise wait till one of the pairs eggs starts chipping and you will then know what egg was in the wrong box then shift it back to its correct box
