i am about to attempt weaning my first round of youngsters, they are 29 days old,i have been introducing them to the drinker over the last few days which has been succesful, and all of them are still being fed by their parents,a few of my hens have started laying their second round and i felt that now would be a good time to start.is it best to let the youngsters discover the feeding troughs themselves or should i introduce them to corn myself.i have a young bird mixture to feed them with.

put a small amount of seed in front of the ybs when there picking up move them ;)

i usualy have pots of feed in the boxes that they learn to feed from

annother option is to wean them to the y/b loft and put in some of the hens to feed them

for a couple of days they will soon follow the hens to the feeder

a few are picking up and just playing with the corn at the moment,as soon as their feeding properly i can then introduce them to their brand new yb loft, with no problems hopefully.all this is a learning experience for me also.it,s nice to have someone to ask about these things.thanks

never had a hen lay 3 probably find its another hen jumped into the box and laid

just float one of the eggs back to the other pair if the were laid at the same time

otherwise wait till one of the pairs eggs starts chipping

and you will then know what egg was in the wrong box

then shift it back to its correct box
