Rentenier Posted February 12, 2006 Report Posted February 12, 2006 During the breeding season here, I bred 60 pigeons,20 was cocks 40 was hens, Is this normal trend or is there another way to breed to ensure a 50-50 basis.
schouwman71 Posted February 12, 2006 Report Posted February 12, 2006 Just think its swings around year by year, ive bred from the same pigeons for a few years now and i breed more hens in 2004 and then last year i bred a lot more cocks.
westburylofts Posted February 12, 2006 Report Posted February 12, 2006 always the same here as well, but i have noticed we loose more cocks than hens
carl Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 For the 2 season i have raced i have had alot more hens,my first season i had around 75% hens and had to stop some cocks.
Guest jason Posted February 13, 2006 Report Posted February 13, 2006 i've always had more hens than cocks but i find hens race better as i fly the natural system and fly the hens to eggs or youngsters.
Wiley Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 what i done this year was very time consuming but i only took the first eggs from all my pairs and found that 80% were cocks i learnt this trick from geoff coopers video
birdman55678 Posted December 28, 2006 Report Posted December 28, 2006 Wiley I also have heard that the first round is generally a majority cock birds, its easy to check though, just sex the babies at about 4 days old (like the chicken breeders do) and then you will know for sure. The chicken guys advertize and guarentee 99% accuracy. Ed
