My old cocks and yearling cocks were all settled to a nestbox. Four days ago I paired them and locked them in. I've since let them out one pair at a timeeach day  but two pairs do not return to the boxes, I end up having to catch them and put them back! Does this mean they're not really paired? Or the cock was not really stayed to the box? Or...??  Should I carry on and hope they get the hang of it or do something else? :-/ :-/

Pecked just keep locking them up and letting them out till they get used to it.I had the same problem to start with with .one pair i locked the hen in the box  and let the cock drive at her through the bars till they got the hang of it.All in all it was about a week till all the pairs where settled.this is just my experiance but please bear in mind this is my first attempt at breeding so i may be wrong.

if they are not paired up speck, try puting them in a compartment on their own for a while, when doing this make sure their nest box is closed so nothing else can use it.

Hens have now to get used to their boxes. If you let each pair out one pair at a time for the first few days, the hen should follow her cock back to the box.

Once they are doing this, let two pairs out, and watch that they each go to the correct box.

After a week and before the first pair lays, all the boxes should be open and the pairs going back to their own box.

one of my cocks wants three nestboxes and thinks he can take the world on lol!!!!!!!

Doing my head in. Still all the birds are paired now and following their hens and have been feeding each other so they can battle it out alkong themsleves now. Its always the bottom nestboxes that are the problem!!

I THINK THE BEST WAY IS TO LET THE COCK PICK ITS OWN BOX IF NOT HE MIGHT NOT B HAPPY IN THE LOFT ITS LIKE PUTTING U IN A BOX BUT YA DONY LIKE IT THER JUST LIEK US :)

How do I know if they are not paired up?

Bruno, but the cock is not going back into the box...they both stay on the floor!!

If they weren´t paired up they would be fighting like cat and dog in the box. The cock would throw the hen out.

It is as the other posts say, a game of patience. If one pair spend a long time out of the box just go away and leave them out. Go back in an hour ... probably back in the box then, if not, put them in the box and lock it, then let the next pair out.

but if they arent paired wouldnt they just fight in the box! Just interested Bruno as at the moment have a 5 month old stock cock and i am not sure if he has paired to his hen, his a stock cock there locked in there boxes but they dont fight. The thing is his a nervous cock and you hardly see him coo! The only time i have is when looking through the ventilation but he is a very wild pigeon, could they be paired as they are in the box peace and quiet and none show any signs of fighting ect? This is the one pair i am actually in two minds whether there paired or not?

Keep the hen locked in one side of the box and the cock bird on the other for a day. Then the next day lock all the others in there boxes and leave only that hen out and now then cock locked in the box so she has to go back to him when he calls, she will soon get the hang of where the box is. Some hens are a pain in the ar-e and will always take to the floor and really the only way to combat that is not to have any sawdust down etc!!!!

Hmm, ok I think! I paired them on the 3rd and they've all laid which I'm told is good going for 06 birds.  They're all settled to their boxes, apart from the cock in the bottom box, who seems to think he owns his box plus the rest of the loft space!! He doesn't perch next to his hen unless I lock them in together!

dont think there paired then sue, i had a 5 month old cock doing the same, some pigeons just take a dislike to some hens.Have you seen him tread her ect? If not id change the hen?

youve did it sue :) :) its one of the most annoying times with pigeons, especialy yearlings, they can be very stubborn,, but they must all be well enough anyway if theyve laid like that ,, then [eventually :)]    theres peace in the loft :)
