Guest WINGS 04 Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I ONLY NAME THEM IF THEY WIN A PHOTO
Guest Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 Sometimes I think it's the kiss of death naming a pigeon and only one of my young bird team got a name from me this yeat "The Gambler" always had his head sticking out of the crate and it was a gamble that he got his head in before I put another crate on top. Jimmy white's two auction birds had names also. In the stock loft we have Spittin Image and Carbon Copy cause they look just like their Dad Maxwell, we have F8 Crusader, The Tornado and Rolls Royce Merlin cause they're fighters just like their Dad Leyton Express. On the old bird race team one or two are named, our best Van Reet cock is Shokanaw and his nestmate brother is called Fifer, we have a cock called Clocky always comes late except for the longer races It was the kiss of death for me though a couple of years back, when I called 4 young birds Dipsy Tinky Winky Lala and Po Steve was not amused
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted November 29, 2006 Report Posted November 29, 2006 I ONLY NAME THEM IF THEY WIN A PHOTO WELL YOU WILLNAE HAVE ANY NAMES THEN
Tim.Farr Posted November 30, 2006 Report Posted November 30, 2006 Linda I hope you lost Dipsy, Tinky Winky, Lala, and Po.
Beanz Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 It's easy if they don't trap on race days or play up when out, only thing is you could not repeat them on here
stevebelbin Posted December 6, 2006 Report Posted December 6, 2006 Same as most - but mine dont get a name until they are at least two year old - e.g. Mr Reliable (for obvious reasons) - Grunt (as he never stops grunting when im in the loft) - 008 (from his ring number) etc etc LOL

westy Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 i name myne by the colour or the breed also the personality.
jimmy white Posted December 18, 2006 Report Posted December 18, 2006 i actually think its funny how nicknames tag to pigeons, ,, i,e if the "bottom cheq" paired with" wee heid"" limpy " would be left to pair with" short ar,,"or "dippy" then "darkie", would be paired to" toeless"or even" straggles", then that would leave" piedo"to pair with " young co co" or the "big hen" [good job shes a hen ; ;D D] etc etc , dear knows how the name crops up , then sticks ;D ;D ;D

hillfamilyloft Posted January 15, 2007 Report Posted January 15, 2007 I do the Ganus trick. I name all my birds the 019. That way I can sell birds off of them for thousands of dollars. Ha Ha. I let my kids name my birds. I do have a select few I name after golfers. I have Freddy, Tiger, Norman etc. I also have a hen named big birtha and another named great big bertha and another named great great big bertha. I also have a cock named the Walrus. Needless to say he is quite fat. Sometimes I look in the pedigrees for names. Randy Hill

me Posted February 13, 2007 Report Posted February 13, 2007 try and find a name that seems to match there individual personality traits. Although having said that all of mine are called "Schitty Bagstart" !!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Posted March 23, 2007 Report Posted March 23, 2007 All my birds have a name,I don't work off ring numbers. My bird who died was called superstar......because she was.Every year I think i should have a theme for that years youngsters, flowers, colours, films, etc but i never end up doing it that way. When you really get to know each squeeker it's personality will just give you a name.My eldest sqeeker already has a name, wondering jew because even at 18days he is running round the loft floor like a rocket and is everywhere but in his nest!
