Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 Good luck Ben are you going with the D and C continetal ? it will be better than the cornish combine. yes both of them i will race with do you race with them were do you live??
Wiley Posted April 9, 2007 Report Posted April 9, 2007 so your single up 40-50 babies, from how far by road?
blackjack Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Ben i live in the Cotswolds now but used to fly north road out of Cornwall i know Dick Antony well and a few others Im in my mid 40s i fly just hard old English pigeons. The D @ C is far better than the combine it will give you proper racing and test your birds . Take it steady and good luck you will be ok in Looe.
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 thank you but 5 of the races are from chale IOW and two from Lambelle
blackjack Posted April 10, 2007 Report Posted April 10, 2007 Dont tell me your a sprinter Ben thiers enough of them in Kernow a lot have lost thier nerve and will not go over the ditch. Dont follow them look at Dick,Ross and the Angwins they are far better.
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 YER IOW IS NO DISATNCE 5 MILES WATER THEN 170 OF LAND
Wiley Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 so your single up 40-50 babies, from how far by road?
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 so your single up 40-50 babies, from how far by road? about 6-7 miles for them to fly
Wiley Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 ok ben, so a minute imbetween each you say am i right? so 40 babies would make it 80 mins an hour and 20 mins, if your taking them 6-7 miles to me it doesnt add up how you can be there mate, as they arent going to take 80 mins to get home from that distance??
jimmy white Posted April 11, 2007 Report Posted April 11, 2007 May i suggest that you watch the wind and the weather alot of people blow thier yearlings sending too early they meet a cold wind or are simply not ready do not be in a rush. Pick your days for training wind, weather and cloud take them 20miles give them 30 mins to settle then try 3s 15mins apart it will make them think and also make it better if struck by raptors smaller groups broken up. I do not know if your natural like ourselves but send them on 10/14 days sitting do not send yearlings chasing do not be in a rush . Its easy to ruin birds by rushing in to early look at what Frank Tasker wrote on this site . Remember paticince is a virtue and if you want to see what will loses your more birds than any hawk look in a mirror . Dont be in a rush good luck. this makes perfect sense, , a lot of fanciers think that as theve flown x amount of distance as ybs theyll do this as yearlings, im afraid this is not so, in fact the opposite so early in the season,, so it really is a case of watching the weather and being very cautious :) ben ,ben ,ben, :)new wiley was going to catch you out there ,, never mind, we live and learn :) , i would definately leave [at the very least 15 mins between them on single ups] , but if you can do it in a minute ben ,, the best of luck to you no offence meant matey at least your keen , that means a lot itself,, hope you do well ben
Wiley Posted April 12, 2007 Report Posted April 12, 2007 lol well i just couldnt get my head round it jimmy, no offence was meant to ben, as me and ben have spoke on the phone on numerous occassions, just couldnt get my head round the situation.Jimmy is 100% right tho ben 10-15 mins between them, and his also right that keeness goes along long way and thats something i know you are ;)
Guest REDFOXKRAUTHS Posted April 13, 2007 Report Posted April 13, 2007 10-15 mins between each bird will take for ever
snowy Posted April 13, 2007 Author Report Posted April 13, 2007 oh well thanks all we will see how we do tomorrow as sending all 21 yearlings.
Wiley Posted April 15, 2007 Report Posted April 15, 2007 10-15 mins between each bird will take for ever yes my friend, you need time to do it but a minute each i can guareentee that your 40-50 ybs arent coming home in ones! Thats why we always 4 our birds up, when we do this process!
dazza Posted April 24, 2007 Report Posted April 24, 2007 In my experience there is no benefit in singling pigeons up. What you need is the birds with the ability to be prepared to break from the masses on a saturday and then the guts and heart to carry through that effort. If you single up a bird what does it race back with? Surely you want your birds to have the habit of returning asap which will happen most often when racing with a bunch. Anyone raced a 2 bird race alongside a fed race, the majority of the time the higher numbered race will produce the faster velocities. The only advantage i see in singling is possibly against the raptor threat and the ensuing panic of a large bunch. My thoughts only. cheers dazza
