Chatrace Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Mine will have 50 tosses before the 1st race at least, 90% will be from 35 miles the longest will be 70 miles it took 9 tosses to get to 35 miles alone. The 35 mile point is what I call the final break point to win want them to do it in there sleep :-) our first race is 127 miles for me

phillips Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 hi mate my ybs get 10 chucks at 12 miles and then 5 at 20 then bring them back to 12 to see if they still no what to do when a yb gets to its breaking point its normally from around 10/15 mile so that tells you mate you dont need to punish them doing 50 mile plus just 10/15 mile

Guest Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 ;D any more posotive veiws ?? come on old hands , give us some pointers ? thank you andy a lot depends on you andy how far you want to race them and if you wont them to win ,personally speaking i prfer to educate my young birds and do it in stages and as ofeten as possible ,in fact everday weather permitting the reason i beleive is thus ,if when you were young and you only went to skool every odd day much would you learn ,well pigeons are just the same in my eyes and that y they go every day to about 25 miles yes and twice per day as well untill they have had at least 40 spins and then they only get about 2/3 races then sat by for the foloowing year : ;)

Guest Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 i always though as sammy said its next year you want them for its just educating they need as this years ybs are the future of your loft. i agree Mark , but this year i need to find which are the best performers . thank you ............................. andy
Ronnie Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 I had mine at 40 mile's before the first race over a three week period working in 4 stage's 8 mile 15 mile 25 mile and then the 40 mile's.I agree with the breaking at the 12-15 mile stage and racing for home but my theory is if i can get the to 40 mile's along the race track then they should be set for when they get blown of the race track. My first race was 90 mile's and i had 8 on the roof 2 min's before the winner in the club .Just wish i'd worked on trapping as much as road work.Race's are won and lost in the shed as they say .
Wiley Posted July 23, 2007 Report Posted July 23, 2007 Hello andy you need as much education as possible mate, id like to get them to at least one time at 30 miles before first race, Don't rush the young birds worse thing you can do, you have plenty of time, and alot of my young birds i give there first race at 114 miles. BUT EDUCATION IS THE KEY, only the well educated pigeons i send to the first race here at 58 miles, and the following one at 74 miles. Don't rush, slowly slowly, catch a monkey! My promising cocks will get as much education as possible, they will maybe go to 3-4 races upto 130 mile, then all the rest will be sent on throughout the programme. Cock birds i feel need the education of the race. Take your time young birds are your future, STRICT SELECTION will make alot of people better fanciers. Choose a point that you want your young birds to achieve, and select from that may it be consistency back to the loft, may have to reach a certain position in club level, you all make your own selection. P.S a yb on saturday, which is a half brother to one of your ybs i bred you andy was 2nd club on saturday. ;)
Guest TAMMY_1 Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 and that works ?? :-/ what are results & returns like ?? andy WORKS FOR ME ANDY, HAVE GOOD RESULTS IN THE CLUB, AS GOOD AS ANYBODY ELSE, AND RETURNS IN THE LAST FEW YEARS HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN MOST IN THE CLUB, AND I KNOW THE OTHER CLUB MEMBERS TAKE THEM FOR MILES AND MILES, NEVER SAW THE NEED FOR THIS BECAUSE THE BIRDS KNOW WHERE THEY LIVE AND THEY DONT KNOW IF THEY ARE 5 MILES OR 25 MILES FROM HOME, THEY JUST KNOW THEY NEED TO GET HOME, ONLY MY OPINION ANDY AND IT WORKS FOR ME SO I HAVE NO INTENTIONS OF CHANGING, BUT EACH TO HIS OWN.
Guest Posted July 24, 2007 Report Posted July 24, 2007 ;Dthanks to all for the replies . it seems what is ok for one man doesnt suit another ? . and again whichever way you do it , still seems to get the right results ? i intend to send no more than 10 birds this saturday , (have 28 still) and depending on weather/ training next week as to how many go then ? thanks again andy

Tam
