Guest Posted August 21, 2007 Report Posted August 21, 2007 Do you think that youngbird racing means a lot? I know a lot of people who just take young bird racing with a pinch of salt and if they win its a bonus. They just want them to have some good experience and then go on to perform as yearlings + . Some people race purley youngbirds and then dont race old birds at all and then sell their birds on these performances. And some can race a good young bird but when it comes to old birds they can't race them to win.? You can get a youngbird win a big race and then loose it as a yearling. I know you get the exception to this rule, but it does happen time and time again. These are just my opinions.
Mark Bulled Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 You must decide what you want from the sport. To be successful with babies you must be on the dark and also have a good YB system. I personally think YB racing is more specialised than old birds (To be really successful). However you have to weigh up the pros and cons. Are darkness babies any good as old birds? and do your working hours fit in with the darkness system. I personally race the natural system, reletively unsuccessfully. However I race them all the time they are in good feather all through the card. They may not win much as young birds but I expect them to be cometitive from word go as yearlings.
jimmy white Posted August 22, 2007 Report Posted August 22, 2007 good yb,s are not necessary good old birds,, ,, and good ob,s are usually not had the guts knocked out them as y,bs
chichichi Posted August 23, 2007 Report Posted August 23, 2007 we have a cock bird that topped the fed as a young bird and as a yearling and as a 2 year old. but you must race your young birds to educatate them for their old bird life.....if they win its a bonus, but doesn't make them a good old bird....
thunderboult Posted August 24, 2007 Report Posted August 24, 2007 i like to race young birds until they get to bad in the moult then i put them away, it does'nt matter to me if they've had 1 race or 10 although they would have been trained out to about 50 mls
