Guest TAMMY_1 Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY FLY TAMMY FLY UPTO THE PERCH OR FLY IN A RACE UP TO PERCHES ,ROUND LOFT, NOBODY MENTIONED RACES ANYWHERE
Ed Bourque Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 How many flights does a pigeon have? Ed
Guest slugmonkey Posted September 18, 2007 Report Posted September 18, 2007 I once had a guy tell me the wing on a bird of ours was bad only problem was it was a 2nd national ace bird! From what I have been told these are more of a sprint type wing the distance wings are longer and thinner with the feathers being narrower with more space in the indentions between feathers
Ed Bourque Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 I have some distance birds, I also read somewhere that the fethers under the wing next to the body, looks like they been cut off on the end. so said are distance birds. I have not race mine yet so I would not know. Ed
jimmy white Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 nowt wrong with them,,,the first pic, the bird has just threw its first flight , reckoned to be in the best nick for racing,,, the other has moulted 6 flights and would be" past its racing form" [and body moulting]
Guest j.bamling Posted September 19, 2007 Report Posted September 19, 2007 nowt wrong with them,,,the first pic, the bird has just threw its first flight , reckoned to be in the best nick for racing,,, the other has moulted 6 flights and would be" past its racing form" [and body moulting] THEM ARE ALL NEW FLIGHTS JIMMY IT ONLY HAS 3 TO THROW !!! ON THE BLUE AND WHITE Y/B
batusai Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 nowt wrong with them,,,the first pic, the bird has just threw its first flight , reckoned to be in the best nick for racing,,, the other has moulted 6 flights and would be" past its racing form" [and body moulting] Hi Jimmy, does this mean it will not do good in the race? pls advise... thanks!
jimmy white Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 THEM ARE ALL NEW FLIGHTS JIMMY IT ONLY HAS 3 TO THROW !!! ON THE BLUE AND WHITE Y/B to me, in the first pic,, it looks like its just thrown its first flight,,[[too much of a step , between secondary and primary ,, but hard to tell in pic,, if this was the case ,,ideal for racing ,, the second pic ,, the bird has def has just 4 flights to moult , so should be past its best ,, but with pigeons anything poss so it would depend on their condition and training etc ,[also on the body moult], but the best of luck batusai,as mr bramling said it [in the first pic] may have 3 flights to go,but would be easier to tell with the bird in the hand [look in between the gap in the first pics flights between the secondry and primary , if theres a flight pipping through , its just cast its first flight , if not,,and it has 3 flights to go,and if so, its a really big" step in the flights" bigger than usual batusai ,, im also wondering if these pics were taken recently
jimmy white Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 THEM ARE ALL NEW FLIGHTS JIMMY IT ONLY HAS 3 TO THROW !!! ON THE BLUE AND WHITE Y/B think its only fair to point out,,,,,,,,,,, batusai is in the philipines where light, and seasons differ from us
Hogni Posted September 20, 2007 Report Posted September 20, 2007 The step between the secondary and primary feathers is what i try to breed into my birds as in my experience it contributes to them flying faster, but of course other factors will have to be there to and the step alone will not make them do the job
batusai Posted September 21, 2007 Report Posted September 21, 2007 Thanks Jimmy! I am thinking if I can cut the 9th & 10th flight just to prepare them for the next race? is it ok?

Thanks
