Guest Silverwings Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 what u like george ? would like to get som of that myself next new years eve .........ray
mark Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 if your are a newbie is best to keep a few well bred birds, as if you lose a few can bred again. not so easy when buying ybs in if you lose them thats it wiped out.
pigeonscout Posted January 6, 2008 Report Posted January 6, 2008 with due respect ,,,,,how do you know ; :) I think you are missing the point I was trying to make. If you take 10 winning pigeons from 10 winning lofts and race them from the same loft you will only have one winner. It is the same with breeders you can only have 1 or 2 top pairs it does not matter if you have 1000 breeding pairs.

Guest karl adams Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 i have stock birds as i am new to the sport i have 50 in all i have 4 breeds busschaerts / staf van reets / soontjens /and 1 pair of wildemeersch when i have reard the young out of them i will onley keep 24 for stock and the rest will go , i will then try the young out of them and see how they do, but this time next year i hope to not have any as stock as i donot think its fair to keep them locked up and not let out
Guest slugmonkey Posted January 7, 2008 Report Posted January 7, 2008 I don't worry about strains I just take the good ones and add them to my family I try to take proven cocks and breed them to diffrent hens then I take these offspring and breed them back to the parents, aunts, uncles, and half siblings I then breed these from diffrent family's together and try to find that elusive " hybrid vigor "
Merlin Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Agree with you Slugmonkey this system is definitely the best for producing more than a fair share of winners, good racing winners are mostly found in first crosses due to the hybrid vigor, if bred from close bred individual parents its found that first crosses are your best racers, the old maxim applies in this instance close to produce breeders with hopefully an abundance of winning genes contained therein, and with the hybrid vigor introduced with the crossing of the two different bloodlines.
