hi all you top young bird specialists..i have 38 young birds and i recken there must be 28 cocks out of them...i have a 18ft loft ..3 sections with 24 widowhood boxes in 2 of the sections and 40 lift of perches in the other section..as its my first year back the young birds have got the run of the full loft...there flying realy well at the moment but now there starting to find there feet and starting to pair up..landing all over the estate on house roofs in pairs treading and not wanting to come in when its time for there feed...some of the hens are eggy already and what im getting at is i think its far to earley to put bowls in cos they would be bored before racing ( 8 weeks time) so i was thinking of seperating the cocks from the hens and putting the cocks into the widowhood boxes and fly them out seperate ..like on a widowhood systam...so has anyone ever tried it and done any good.. or is it to early to mess about....your thoughts please....all the best lads mark.... ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

split them and let them come together on a friday before racing

Never really done any good with young cocks racing to a widowhood system, had the odd one or two win one week but gone the next. Done very well with young hens tho.

on all of the dvds that i have seen they call it the sliding door method let them run togather on friday [but how to choose which ones to send is never talked about!!!] then after about 7 races into the yb season let them pair up for the longer [more interesting races?]with that sort of cock/hens imbalance you could always try a jealously system with two cocks and one hen [in the middle section of a nestbox]for the longer races

i have 20 young birds to fly this year three are showing to be cocks and are a right pain in the hole , they wont fly all they do is drag all the rest of the section down to the roof tops so they can tred , time for change i know but what way would i work it i have a spare section .
