Ronnie Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 I would like to see some land used as community lofts you could build say 5 identical lofts on them and get some pple to run them on behalf of different groups say schools or other comunity groups they could compete in league's as well as local feds and nationals if they wanted.Just another Idea that could be implemented.
Guest shadow Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 in newcastle the council did this but its the only one I know of they wanted the original land for developement
Guest IB Posted August 26, 2008 Report Posted August 26, 2008 It is very sad that younger people don't have the same interest in animals, time & costs are against them, but retired folk have the time & money & grandchildren and that might spark off renewed interest. So I think there is a future but maybes very different from what we know now? I think one loft / community lofts and schools will figure in it. If people can't have a loft in the back garden, then they need secure facilities provided that feel part of the place (culture & recreation) that are not subject to repeated vandalism and arson attacks. Sponsorship of local schools thro one loft race entries seems to work too, especially as its part of kid's overall learning experience.
tango_kid Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 I might not the in any position to talk but its not just the time, there is also a big initial outlay if you are looking into racing as a hobbie, especialy if your young like myself or you are one of thoes people who take on hobbies for a few months but never get into them properly. alex wight Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Condolences m8. Be positive and optomistic about life, you only get out what you put in, good luck.
Whats it called Cumbernauld Posted September 18, 2008 Report Posted September 18, 2008 Those that run our sport, with in the different unions,in the Nationals, Feds, and Clubs, will dictate how suceessful or other wise, we are in taking our sport into the future. If you have faith in these people then you may be on the side of the fence that the future looks bright. If on the other hand like me you feel there contrabution, and new enitiatives in order to encourage new fanciers into iour sport, has been woefull, to none existant, then you may indeed be a doom and gloom punter like me. There can be little doubt one loft racing will be a big part of our future, like it or not.In addition to this, the site we are on will go a long way to revive our fortunes, this to will play a part in how we go forward,a very importent part One other point i would say, is i think we in our time will be just fine, however it is to the future genrations that i fear for,and that is sad.
paul10121968 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 all our sport needs is a good dose of advertising, pigeons are looked upon as a pest by the public,i beleive that if the sport was advertised a little people would see that pigeons dont just hang around town centres etc, that they are loved, raced and cherished by their owners.i am coming into the sport soon and because i have introduced my children to pigeons there are now a potential four more future fanciers.
thunderboult Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 i saw on 1 of jim jenner's video's a programme were they used pigeons to help tearaway kids in america at school and it was a great success, all the kids were turning up all the time and a load of them seemed really interested ,what's more their school results improved because of it.
paul10121968 Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 if only there was a way to take the sport into the schools,i beleive you would have a lot more young fanciers coming into the sport.
jimmy white Posted September 19, 2008 Report Posted September 19, 2008 i read your post really with sad thoughts, and really feel for you,, my sincere condolences ,, so sorry about your uncle, at such a young age, im quite sure saddened greatly over this , but , theres allways a future , no matter what ,,given time ,, its very understandable your thinking at the moment , but once youve gotten through this sad episode a little , who knows , you may just wake up one morning and say ,,right now is the time,, then battle on , keep the pigeons and for your families sake ,your grandad , your uncle, then show other fanciers what you can do , just think of the warm glow , winning a race , knowing full well your grandad and uncle would be proud of you ,it may not be right away ,but given time and thought,, youll pick yourself up,, dust yourself down then battle on ,,,its the only way ,,good luck to you my freind
