How would you know if your pigeons are ready for a race about 150 to 250 miles and i am new to the sport.

i have them racing pigeons in one end and the others in another side

its something you learn....you can read/watch/listen all you like but eventually you have to put something in the basket and try. both you and your pigeons are learning so take it 1 step at a time. get them excersizing nicely around home ..then some road training...then some races from shorter racepoints. get an idea of how the pigeons handle before/after racing. most importantly ...have fun :)

Well i sometimes i put the hens and cocks together and take them away from them when i am basketing them on a friday is that a good idea or are they just tiring themselves out

watch them flying around the loft

if they shoot about the sky not wanting to come in they are getting there

you have then got to train them i would give them 10 to 15  at around 25 miles minimum

if you havent raced them before a couple of shorter races first then 150 miles

i take it this is oldbirds

does it work ? thats the answer. its easy IMO for novices to get 'hung up ' on motivation and neglect health and fitness. i found that fit pigeons come home and often fast enough to win...concentrate on fitness.

so see for young birds see if it takes some birds 2 days from a 15 mile traing toss is it worth it to race them.

my advice was for ob really. ybs i'm still puzzled...but i suspect it's a case of train/train/train/train/train............................

so it is good for the young birds to train 3 times a week on a race week or will they be tired
