Everything will depend on the type of races you compete in and the type of birds you have. I fly widowhood, pure and simple. It's easy to do. It takes a relatively short amount of time and the birds will win. Better still, you can keep the birds on form for all season if you get it right.

So if you are looking for a system that is effective, simple and easy to manage, try widowhood. Another benefit is the fact that you can compete with a very small team. I normally have 12 and fly 6 a lot of the time.

should they be split from the hens now as they are all young birds

are they best in a section with boxes or perches

i would suggest doing what suits you and the time you have.

if you try something that takes up most of your time then you might end up regretting it at the end of the season.

do what YOU have time for.

I happen to know that there are a lot of very knowledgable people in your neck of the woods, especially about sprint racing. You need to make a study of what they are donig.

Before you even think of biulding a loft, go and have a look at the lofts that are winning in your area. Make sure you look at the ventilation systems they are using. This will save you a lot of time and money. Also look at the time the Fancier spends with the birds because some people have the doors open for most of the day. It is a major consideration.

It is the same with the birds. Get yourself the type of bird that wins the races in your area. It is no good trying to win sprints with birds that have been selected to win long distance events, and visa versa.

Next, learn to control your birds so that they have discipline, and not let them control you. They must never go on the house. Start as you mean to go on and it will work out well for you. Last, never loose your temper even a little bit. Control your birds by out thinking them.

yes i agree, very sound advice,, especially obtain birds that can win over your own terrain ,then  the three c,s,,i,e, condition, control and contentment,, this cannot be obtained by poor ventilation, overcrowding etc, sometimes keeping things simple i find is the best
