Guest HighSpeedLofts Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 I believe the hanseen strain was in the make up of the spangle pigeons is this strain still about today
Guest numpty01 Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 for someone that asks such simple questions and when given answer its strange how you are a wealth of knowledge on birds so its clear you are not noveice ;D ;D ;D
Craig05 Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 We imported some from the UK to South Africa in the early 90's and up until last year when my father packed up pigeon racing over there, they were the base of his loft and did very well in the heat. A youngster from that family gifted to a friend won the combine by 23 minutes in Cape Town last week on its very first race 300km approx 5000 birds, was bad weather but still very hot. We also crossed them to the Jansen strain with very good results in the middle distance so back to your question, not sure if you still get them over here but i know of approx 100 in South Africa if that helps

Guest HighSpeedLofts Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 theres still a few about its finding them ugly beady eyed things but good pigeons this must be where the spangles inherited there wild looking eyes
chaz Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 I believe the Joe E Shore birds were originally based on the Hanssenes of a Mr Bob Dunne with a cross in the late 70`s early 80`s of the Vanhee/Stichelbaut lines from a Mrs Bowyer of Northwich and they too are like rocking horse ****
OLDYELLOW Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 this must be where the spangles inherited there wild looking eyes feathered legs as well
Guest chrisss Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 and a bit of bronzing in the wing?, or was that a different strain that had chequers like that?
OLDYELLOW Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 bronze was quite common in the Gurnays , but was a trait in the Hanseens

Craig05 Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 ours were small to meduim blue bars, that through the occasional near white or blue sadleback. you do have me a bit worried with the eye colour as ours all had the moste beautiful pearl type eye, not wild as described earlier. i hope they were hansen's mind!!!! whatever they were, we enjoyed them for years

Guest HighSpeedLofts Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 and thats what matters most not eye or colour or breed the eye does matter why do you think they have eye sign classes at shows and its handy if the bird has 2 the foot theory is the best....first pair of feet on the landing board on race day
Guest numpty01 Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 okay eyesign so im judgeing eyesign class then someone eklse is they see total diffrent eye than i do fact
