hi all

has any member ever used mothballs in the lofts as i am starting to see some small moths in the lofts and i would like to get rid of them

and do they have any health probs with the birds if used

Moths are harmless, but I'd say mothballs aren't.

 

As Shadow says, any flyspray or the spray you use for lice and mites will kill them. All these 'fly' sprays are usually permethrin based, which is the same used for pigeons and harmless to them.

 

Cheapest is still garlic water, also an insecticide, make some up and put it in a spray bottle. Use just like any spray.

 

Probably the dearest but the most efficient as it kills all insects, larvae and eggs, is Stalosan F, a dry disinfectant which also kills bacteria, virus, fungus and mould. Sprinkle that around the loft for all-round protection.

By all means!!  Getrid of moth balls!!!!  Great to get rid of mice!! Put under Loft.  Moth balls contain Naptna a chemical used in Napalm!!!! I'm sure I'm not spelling it correctly.  Friend had these around containers in hunting cabin:  deer could smell us 100 miles away cause it permeated your clothing and even plastic sandwich bags we'd use to pack our lunches!!!!!  Keep out int the tool shed!!!!

use cedarwood oil, you can get it from holland and barrets and it is cheap. moths hate it and wont go near it. it is also harmless. just drop about two drops on the floor. its a natural oil

Is it OK to spray it when the birds are in the loft and also young babies?  Won't the fumes harm them? :-/
