Guest Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 I was told by a vet years ago not to use ivomectin till the birds were 6 weeks old,we did all ours on the back of the neck last weekend and it will stay effective for the next 6 months against most worms and lice,to help avoid resistance we will also use moxidectin for 24 hrs in the drinker in 3 mths time,as another lady fancier already said though neither of these treat tapeworm, you need another product whose nname sadly escapes me just now but we use it just once a year as tapeworm isnt as common.
Guest IB Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 at what age can you treat yb,s for worms. The only ivermectin product I've used on pigeons is one of the ones on the market specifically formulated for pigeons. The instructions say: do not use on YBs under 8 weeks old . Stick to that and you won't go wrong.
rooster Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 dicestal are good for removing internal fat as well as tapeworm , fanciers use these tablets as a boost just before a big race , also known as wounder tabs , :-/
Guest IB Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 dicestal are good for removing internal fat as well as tapeworm , fanciers use these tablets as a boost just before a big race , also known as wounder tabs , :-/ The active ingredient is dichlorophenol, and according to the Veterinary Medicines Directorate, 'it does exactly what it says on the tin', it is effective on 2 of 3 species of tapeworm, making the tapeworm hook release its grip on the gut wall, and killing it. Both the drug and the worms are then expelled. The drug isn't absorbed by the body - it never leaves the gut, so the 'boost' claims seem OTT. It's a dog & cat product, and the recommended dose for any animal weighing less than a 1kg (like a pigeon) is half a tab.
rooster Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 Used as a depurative and purge. Fast pigeons and remove all drinking water for 12 hours before treatment.Dose 1 tablet per pigeon. Wait 2 hours and then supply water medicated with Medilyte. Wait another 2 hours and then supply food. This treatment should be done before classic races and may be repeated every 8 weeks or when needed. 1 tablet dichlorophen 125mg ;D

rooster Posted May 22, 2009 Report Posted May 22, 2009 levamisole used at a milder dose is useful for y/birds as it stimulates the immune system ,
