It is in the same "family" of drugs as ciprofloxacin hydrochloride (Cipro) and enrofloxacin (Baytril). Colombovac has now released its partatyphoid vaccine for sale in the UK.

Typhimurium variant Copenhagen: at least 5 x 107 cfu, sufficient to induce at least a mean antibody titre (ELISA) of 9.1 in target animals. Also contains 1 mg Carbomer 934P as adjuvant. Uses For active immunisation of pigeons from the age of six weeks to prevent mortality caused by Salmonella spp. ser. Typhimurium variant Copenhagen. Dosage and administration One dose of vaccine (0.2 ml) is to be administered by subcutaneous injection at the dorsal side in the nape of the neck in the direction of the back of the bird. Vaccination scheme Primary vaccination Two doses per animal three weeks apart. Administration of the first dose preferably to animals of the age of six weeks. Booster vaccination Six months after the primary vaccination and thereafter every six months. Contraindications, warnings, etc. Do not use in birds other than pigeons. Do not vaccinate birds during the reproduction period and while taking care of squabs. No information is available on the safety and efficacy from the concurrent use of this vaccine with any other. It is therefore recommended that no other vaccines should be administered within 14 days before or after vaccination with the product. Do not mix with any other vaccine or immunological product. Intramuscular injection should be avoided. Vaccinate animals at least four weeks before the reproduction period. After first vaccination a palpable local reaction up to about 1 cm in diameter may occur in about half of the pigeons. After second vaccination the palpable local reactions may increase in size (up to 2 cm) and frequency. The local reactions may slide to the ventral side of the neck. It can be palpable for up to six weeks after vaccination. These reactions have been shown not to affect the behaviour and weight gain of the bird. Withdrawal period: Zero days. Operator warning: In the case of accidental self-injection, seek medical advice immediately and show the package insert to the physician. Pharmaceutical precautions Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Store and transport refrigerated (2ºC - 8ºC). Protect from light. Do not freeze. Once broached use within 2 hours. Legal category POM-VPS Package quantities Packs of 50 doses (10 ml).
