when treating do not give anything which might contain calcium..which probiotics may well have in it.

probiotics are to be given after end of treatment...there will be no benficial outcome because baytril will flush anything out of the body anyway.

its well known that baytril is the top medication(very strong) but has a downside as it takes away all bad and good bacteria, this is why probiotics are reccomended after each treatment.

after treatment also give a good multi vitamin too. :)

pointless to do it that way as baytril kills all bacteria including good so best way is to give course of probiotics after treatment with baytril and this will restore the birds benefical bacteria.

Use after treatment to put all the vitamins and minerals back into the birds gut that baytril has flushed away

the information below is staight off a packet of probiotics

probiotics act naturally to help correct the microflora balance in the gut which stengthens the birds resistance against infection and illness due to pathogenic bacteria.

Probiotics are live bacteria. Stands to reason if any antibiotic is in the drinker at the same time as live bacteria, some or all of those bacteria will be killed.  I say some because some bacteria can be resistant to some antibiotics, and that includes Baytril.

What is not known for sure is if a dead probiotic has any beneficial affect on the gut.

THAT'S MY POINT IB NOT ALL THE PROBIOTIC'S ARE KILLED.

I agree with you. But I could not say which strains of bacteria would die, and which would survive. I'd expect that information to appear on the probiotic leaflet / label.

i dont know why anyone is trying to prove that some live bacteria would survive because its well known you wouldnt put any probiotics in when treating, so any argument/discussion about it is a non starter.

as ive already stated...any calcium in that product would /could render the medication less powerful and would counter act against what your trying to achieve with the medication!.

what is evident is that baytril takes good and bad away from the birds gut so having probiotics in the water would be of no use whilst treating...wether is stays a live or not.

this is what is reccomended by top vets.
