Guest Posted December 21, 2005 Report Posted December 21, 2005 Well its official. ;D Interesting snippet on TV news tonight, 'dirty' hospitals and the 'new' superbug Chlostridium Difficile. (Difficult Chloe ;D ) (1) Medics have finally come to understand that the best way of dealing with a bacterial infection is to NOT to administer an antibiotic, WHICH KILLS ALL BACTERIA, INCLUDING THE FRIENDLY STUFF, but to use a probiotic to bolster the friendly population and leave it to do the work nature designed it to do. (2) And, strangely, detergent doesn't kill microbes, but disinfectant does. (3) Isolate the patient. Great 21st Century leaps in human medical knowledge which applies equally well to pigeons?
Guest Posted December 22, 2005 Report Posted December 22, 2005 I always use a probiotic, every other day throughout the winter and 2 times a week during racing.
Guest cloudview Posted March 16, 2006 Report Posted March 16, 2006 Just a tip for beginners - do not use antibiotics to treat a virus, it does more harn than good by killing off good bacteria, which then leaves more space for bad bugs to multiply i.e. cocci. As Bruno said earlier, probiotics, plenty of rest, a light diet i.e. pellets are useful on the digestive system, plus don't give glucose as this feeds the bugs.
