speedbird Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 has anyone had problems with yeast infection Candida (thrush) how can this be treated & prevention & what causes it
Guest Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 not to sure as to its cause but as far as i am aware medistatin is thing proven thing
Wiley Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 lead to believe yeast infections were caused by the sugars in the crop due to sugary feeds such as maize. To make sure it doesnt keep recuring lemon juice with brewers yeast on the corn on return from a race, the acids in the lemons will dissolve or kill all left over sugars in the crop that would then turn into a yeast infection and would affect performance. Nystat is a gd product to use to get rid of the problem or Y40 both work equally well.
Guest anthony Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Once I read that cinamon powder on the corn is a good natural treatment against candida
Wiley Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Once I read that cinamon powder on the corn is a good natural treatment against candida also good to keep strong droppings, and is a natural preventative of young bird sickness
Guest anthony Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 how many times a week you use it Wiley?
Wiley Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 don't use it any more anthony used to use it in the past, but going back 2-3 yrs. However the cinnamon good thing to keep in a cupboard if any droppings do start going wet
Guest Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 googl ,finch files on line , some good info on there about thrush etc.
Guest Posted August 17, 2007 Report Posted August 17, 2007 Other natural remedies / preventatives include cider acid vinegar or garlic in the drinking water. Yeast ferments sugars giving a tell-tale alcohol smell from the crop. Writers reckon spores come from dirty or contaminated feeding. Wim Peters believes 'due to the over-exuberant use of antibiotics some pigeons develop an overgrowth of yeast in the digestive system'. In addition to nystatin, he recommends resting the birds. Thing to remember though that if you suspect yeast, don't feed brewers yeast, you will just make the yeast infection worse.
