schouwman71 Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 a little garlic in the water will bring the blue tounge back to pink, dont think u need to medicate,i once had a good widow cock with a blue tip on his tounge,it never stoped him from winning.
Guest Posted November 14, 2007 Report Posted November 14, 2007 Think you need to be careful here, saw the heading and thought you were talking about bluetongue, a notifiable viral disease in cattle [especially sheep] for which there is no cure. There is a current outbreak in SE England with Zones, restrictions and a call from DEFRA for new vaccines to be produced to combat it. Lets not take any chances on someone getting hold of the wrong 'disease' in the wrong group of animals here. :-/

MsPigeon Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 Most often blue tongue is just the pigmentation of that particular bird. Just like some have dark legs. It's common in grizzels, but any color bird can have it. Carol
bewted Posted January 23, 2008 Report Posted January 23, 2008 `OLD HAND` called it polyneuritis and can get tablets for it called POLYVENE if the symptoms are the same as polyneuritis !!!!
MsPigeon Posted January 24, 2008 Report Posted January 24, 2008 bewted, what is polyneuritis? and what is POLYVENE? I guess you have to know your birds, for some it is just pigmentation but for others that don't normally have the blue tip it may be a symptom. But I have never heard of polyneutitis. The only thing I read about the blue tip, in Colin Walkers book, was that if it were a symptom and not normal pigmentation for a bird, it could be a circulation problem, possibly due to some respritory condition. I have a few grizzels that just have a blue tipped tongue normally. Thanks Carol

Thanks Carol read it in the `OLD HANDS` books and polyneuritis is a lack of vitamins or something like it,but, dont hold me to that !! polyvene was the cure for it in tablet form invented by `OLD HAND` too,,,,!!!!! its something along those lines.but.long time since i have read it now, sorry i cant be very specific on it !!!! ted
