What you call flax seed is better known in pigeon circles as Linseed. It is part of most Moulting mixes and the seed is reasonably cheap to buy.. can even get it in Asda mixed with its mate, hemp, a tit-bit, trapping mix.

I've used linseed from time to time in very small quantities, doesnt half put a shine on the plumage.... and the birds like it too.....(hehe)
