Talk about one problem after another!!  My fantail has developed growths on each of his (don't laugh - I don't know how else to describe them) index fingers.  I wondered if the freezing weather caused it - he's outside in the dovecote but the other fantail is fine.

I think that it is sore because he is limping but he will let me touch them without squirming??

It's not in focus but may help:

hi  had this on a bird some 30 years ago . a local old hand told me it was a corn (YES A CORN ) he told me to dab it with kerosene/ heating oil for 4or5 days and it would sort it out.  well as i went away laughing to my self. i still done it . it worked and put an end to the laughing.

hi peckedhen,,,,might be bumblefoot,  bewted

Its a damned good photo and if I'm seeing it properly, the birds middle claw is a very angry red and badly swollen. Is the skin broken over the joint? Really painful looking. Had it been Ch Pied's bunion / wart, would have reckoned it would be greyish and have a rough horny feeling to it, much like 'hard skin' on the soles of our own feet?

If it is an angry red colour, then agree with Bewted, signs of inflamation and infection, maybe through a break in the skin?  Garlic in the drinking water will deal with both problems inside the claw (I've found it reduces swelling quite quickly, couple of days) but I would suggest you also use an antiseptic cream (savlon, germolene) on the the outside too, to seal any break that might be there.

Real sore looking. Did it swell up quite quickly?

Not sure Bruno - I noticed it a few days ago but I wasn't worried because (don't laugh) I thought it might be to help him grip when treading the hen!  He has one on each foot, the hen has nothing!!  They have become more angry looking now and he is limping so I think they hurt him. :'(  I don't know if the skin is broken. I'll have a closer look tomorrow and see if I can get a better photo - apparently I should have pressed a button for a close up! ::)

It looks like a cist to me, and know someone who had one similar but only on one toe. He tied cotton around the base of the cist and kept tightening the cotton day by day until the cist died and dropped off. I would get someone local to look at it B4 you try this method, but thats what it looks like.

just a shot in the dark pecked hen ,see if you can get a close look at it, to see if it has happened to get a bit twine or cotten or such like , wrapped round its toe, ive had that before the twine was embedded in the swelling which made it very hard to see, as i say, its just a shot in the dark   i hope hes better by now anyway. :)
