Rentenier Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 I have a pigeon that have air in the throat. Her throat is swollen from the crop to the head and it seems as if it is going to kill it if this gets worse. Is their anything I can do.???
mealybar Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 Sounds like a ruptured airsac to me. If you've got a vaccination needle + syringe take as much of the air out as possible. It can reinflate so its a good idea to keep her in a nestbox once the air is out for a couple of days should give it time to heal up. I had a young cock with the same a couple of years ago, that sorted him out.
Rentenier Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 I have removed air but it keeps inflating. How long should I keep this up.
pouw22 Posted February 17, 2006 Report Posted February 17, 2006 hi i had the same problem with reinflating a few years back ,a class fancier re ailments ,told me to liberate the bird after removing air ,this did the trick for my bird.
Rentenier Posted February 17, 2006 Author Report Posted February 17, 2006 I will remove the air and liberete it tommorow morning and I hope it does not have a lasting effect
slatey Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Hi rentenier get a stanley knife and lance the air sac that will work,i have had this before tried popping it with needle but same as you kept blowing up, so i lanced it and squeased all air out it was fine after that. tomo
Guest Posted February 18, 2006 Report Posted February 18, 2006 Puncturing with a Stanley or craft knife is the best idea, this will not harm the bird. A couple of years ago a friend brought a young bird round to us who she had been handfeeding with a syringe and tube. The tube came off and lodged in the crop, we made a fine incision with a craft knife, just enough to work the tube out. We dressed the wound with antiseptic cream and the bird was as fit as a fiddle they following day
Rentenier Posted February 26, 2006 Author Report Posted February 26, 2006 The Pigeon is fine now. I did make an incision and the bird responded very well. Hope it will still perform in the race.
Guest Posted March 2, 2006 Report Posted March 2, 2006 Good Job Keep us posted on how the bird performs, I'm sure it will be fine.
