NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 im not to sure on how genetics work but i would be hesitant on breeding from a hen that has a deficency if of course that is the raeson is there plenty of grit and minerals available for her has she done it in previous seasons

Guest Posted February 18, 2007 Report Posted February 18, 2007 Just to add that the main nerve to the legs runs close to the 'egg works' and egg-laying can cause temporary paralysis of legs in some hens. Wears off in a couple of days. This is not to say that the previous posts are wrong as calcium & phosphates in balance promote a good nervous function, so perhaps the hen has caused a temporary calcium imbalance by using her own bone supply to form the egg shell. Either way, it will wear off in a couple of days when the demand for extra calcium stops.
barry Posted February 18, 2007 Author Report Posted February 18, 2007 after 2 days she was back on her feet , thanks everyone for your advice.
