One of my best 05 stock cocks that is currently moutling heavily around the neck & seems to have developed a problem with the cere around one eye...Its looks rather swollen, watery, and orange in colour.(as aposed to white)

The eye is bright and the bird is in good health overall.......I've never come across this before...

Any ideas anyone on perhaps the cause ...............and treatment........

I'll pop up a photo later

thanks

have you closed your loft up ? the best thing to have is an open loft at this time of year you have no problems with resperartry -- you should open your loft a bit and treat the bird or birds with a good respry cure i use ornicure

the front of my loft is open all day to dual sliding mesh doors...............the stock loft itself goes straight through into an open 8 x 8 x 8 ft flight...so ventilation is not a problem.....

must admitt that the eye looks marginally better today......I wonder if he'd got pecked in the grid, by another cock....

Just wondering if ithe bird is moulting around the head and this is maybe making the eye look a bit odd?  Not all pigeons have white eye ceres and any fleshy colour might be quite normal.

You say everything else is OK with the bird, so I'd do nothing other than keep an eye on it.

Thanks Bruno..................Other than that the birds if good knick..but the cere was noticibly different in colour of the other eye and was weeping.........I just had another thought...an wondered if he'd dipped his head in the drinker which has vitimins in which stains the water yellow!!!!

anyways...he seems alot better today

the bird is going to suffer one eye cold, it will weep and be very watery, it is having to deal with moulting and has got a little run down after a long season. there is noting wrong with the bird.

whats needed is a rest and patience from you and it will get over it when its ready.

if you want to help it along slightly lock the bird in an avairy for 2 days or so but do not leave it out in very cold damp weather.

also how often do you give vitamins ? remember the kidneys have to flush the digestive system , once a week vitamins the rest of the time plain water.

too much vitamins are not good.

hope this helps. the pigeon is a little less than 100% healthy but will be good soon.

Sorry, I can't pick up anything wrong with the bird from the photo, enlarged view. Looks OK to me:-

Wattle is snow white, small feathers immediately above wattle are flat, eye isn't weeping, neck and shoulders are clean - would have expected bird to have a weeping eye to have a stained neck and / or be cleaning the eye on shoulder feathers and thse areas don't appear soiled.

cant really notice that sammy [mind you my eyes are about as bad ;D]  but usually if its one eye cold you see the tell tale bubbles on the bottom eyelid ,,,to difficult for me to see :)  could be the result of a pick [or bird been in a fight] ,,,so i would have a good look for these bubbles rapido man , cant see them in pic.
