Help me here, Chickadee read an article that pigeons can change their sex, we have asked a number of fanciers we know but no one as yet has ever heard of it???

it does happen but cant remember the ins and outs of it think most fanciers will no doubt have a tale or two that can relate to the fact that a young robust cock bird has turned out to be a hen its a fact dunc ut happens

I've read about this in 'Vet's Tips for Fanciers'

 

Apparently its quite rare but female pigeons can become male and this only works in one way, it occurs during development, where a female pigeon have only one functioning ovary and then there are certain factors that can lead her to become male.

 

There's a lot of information about it, I would recommend the book as it's very good (best buy on Pigeonbasics, best price that I've found)
