DOVEScot Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 Is it still eating by its own means? Quoted from Vic Hold the pigeon lower than normal, then look down from above, and you will see whether the pupils have been injured or not. Where did you guys serve your time, Behind bars or in front of them? lol. Vic. Still serving my time like all the rest of us, cannae be good at everything but at least I try. Maybe someday i will be as old and wise as you sir I euthanised it this morning as the eyes looked like they are well damaged inside, actually looked like they were disintigrating, hopefully a one off, no other birds have any signs of ailments. Just wondering if it has pecked at something poisonous while out flying Sorry you missed this posting Vic

DOVEScot Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 the prob is dovey if it was Paratyphoid its young could now be carriers! He himself mayhave been a carrier for many years but something has triggered it! Phil I will get the youngsters droppings tested to see if there are any signs of it, the vet says that it would be better if I sent the cock in alive for a post mortem as salmonella etc develope in dead birds anyway, or I would had to refrigerate it to keep it fresh, In hind sight I wish I had sent the bird in or not killed it instead of thinking it was a poke in the eye Another thing mentioned it could have been a kidney problem causing the eyes to go yellow, we will find out when I get the droppings tested tomorrow Bearing in mind no one has ever seen this yellow eye in a bird before and no other bird including it's younster shows any ill health For what I understand from this article about paratyphoid organism found in pigeons is usually, but not always, Salmonella typhimurium variety copenhagen. http://www.albertaclassic.net/chalmers1.php Any species including ourselves can be carriers of it for life and near enough all species can be carriers of it, most conrtolled or treated with antibiotics
