Guest IB Posted April 19, 2009 Report Posted April 19, 2009 Think you may have the beginnings of Young Bird Sickness going through your loft. The fact that you've a bird died too shows its serious. You have done the right thing in seperating sickly birds, these spew up grain which others eat and so pass it from bird to bird. Check every bird's crop before withdrawing food for 24 hours, check afterwards again to make sure they are all empty. Any vomited grain, make sure you pick it all up. Have a sniff before binning it, if it smells of alcohol that's a clue that it's been in the crop for a while, with yeast fermenting. Something simple like cider vinegar in water to acidify gut will help keep pathogens down. Then change diet to light easily digestible stuff, like seed, until droppings form up. Give them 72 hours, if no improvement, or you have another death, (then you want the body for autopsy) you'll need a good avian vet, maybes best to contact one tomorrow, they might want to see the latest sickly bird.
