let the birds out today, and noticed one of the birds didnt do much flying, now, its just sitting on the top of the loft not doing much, and kinda puffed up

the bird is 3 months old, and was vaccinated, i bought it from louella, and i think they come pre treated

now the bird has seemed to have paired up with one of the cocks, but she§s definetly too young to lay an egg isnt she? these are me and my dads first pigeons, hence the panic

cheers lads

Sounds very much like young bird sickness mate! Have your pigeons vomited at all? It comes on really quickly. I have it at the minute. My birds had been trained 20 times and ready for the race today and then on Thursday went down like a tonne of bricks. It could be a host of things but mine went like that on Thursday. Just went out sat on the roof and hunched up. No energy at all. They are being treated at the minute but really gutted as they were in great nick ready for the first race. But I think its part and parcel of young bird racing these days and I would rather get it now than in the middle of the season and miss the bigger races!

If you see any corn on the perches, or any of the birds being sick this will more than confirm it as YBS. But as Edwards said could be any reason and see how he is tomorrow. But if all the others are ok, isolate the bird and then you can monitor this bird more closely.

no vomiting, as i said, its just the one,  but came on very suddenly, so i havent noticed anything untoward ,the bird is odd, its just standing there on the landing board of the sputnik, its been there for an hour, i pt some feed on the board, she started picking, looked ok for 10 minutes, then back to standing like a statue

should i seperate her for the evening, as in take her from the loft or just lock her in the nest boxes?

and what the treatment, if any is there for young bird sickness.

oh, and watery droppings, i just noticed that now

I had all 53 of my young birds out, that was Thursday, 4 of mine are still on the roof and will not budge! I am treating mine with live yoghurt, charcoal tablets and Adenosan. I have also put Provit in the water to help with watery droppings. Keep the food light - feeding mine conditioner for the time being. Their appetite is starting to come back tonight and the watery droppings are decreasing so fingers crossed the worst of it is over.

sounds like it could be coccidiosis, when you handle her her keel bone will probably feel very prominent,

isolate and treat with one of the propritary medicines such as coxoid or gambatabs , if in doubt ask an old hand who lives close to you, if it is something common they should be able to advise you
