Guest TAMMY_1 Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 hello my is mark gingell bristol can any body help some of my pigeons are rubbing there eyes on wing butt can or should you treat this and what would i use thanks for your help in advance. :) it could be them just wiping dust or something from their eyes
OLDYELLOW Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 could be dust , normal preening , canker , one eye cold , a draught, but without knowing or seeing your loft then very hard to get every aspect taken into consideration
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 will take photo if i can theres slight stain on shoulder no air bubbles in eyes not all showing this somebody said its a respiratory prob.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 it could well be respiritary althought its treatable the only way to get rid is to ensure your loft has good ventilation and is not over crowded when did you canker last ?
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 will take photo tomorrow and try to post it tomorrow evening thanks again.

gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 two weeks before paired up boxing day and 12 days para stop end noveber.
Guest Owen Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 My opinion is the same as Old Yellow. You have not given us enough information. The danger is that while we are trying to play guessing games things may get worse. Tell us if the eyes are weeping or running. Whether there are bubbles in the liquid coming from the eyes. Is it one eye per bird or both. Are the wing butts wet and stained How many of you birds have this problem. How many birds you have in a given space. And what sort of loft you have and details of the ventilation. What floor dressings do you use and how many times a day you clean out.
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 two weeks before paired up boxing day and 12 days para stop end noveber.
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 thin layer easybed 15 boxes 12 pairs shed home made 14ft. ventilation back top front top only 5 birds with slight marks on shoulders not weeping very much feathers dry round eyes clean out every day with out fail. ive got a microscope and check for canker cocci regularly will deffently take some photos tomorrow as you say this would be better cheers.
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 deffently rubbing only one side tho.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 sounds like respiratry youve got air going straight through and not in at bottom of front of loft ? if you put you ear under wing you can here its lungs inflate deflate and you'l get a rough idea if alls not well when did you change your bedding ? is there any ammonia smell in the loft ?
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 will check that first thing in the moring is it a serious prob if i hear anything.
OLDYELLOW Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 if sound crackly then you'l need to treat , it sounds like your birds have ample room and it maybe the bedding giving off toxic fumes which will poison the birds or ventilation needs improving perhaps a few photos of yer loft and dusting the deep litter with lime will help dry droppings quicker and remove the amonnia from the loft
blackdog Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 sounds like mycoplasmosis,, respiritory infection, check on the sides of your nestboxes and perches to see if there is any yellow gluey stuff on them mate
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 if i leave pink minerals they allways seem damp in the morning
Guest Owen Posted February 15, 2010 Report Posted February 15, 2010 I would say that you have a ventilation problem leading to humidity. Hence the damp minerals. The air must come in at the bottem and leave at the top. Humidity can be made worse if you are under trees or there is water near. Another common fault with some lofts is the fact that they do not get sunshine into them. I would also consider fitting ploycarbonate sheets into the front to trap the warm sun and increase the light. You need to get this sorted before the racing starts to give the birds their best chance of attaining top form.
gingell Posted February 15, 2010 Author Report Posted February 15, 2010 thanks for ansers blind very interesting. im sure if you see photos tomorrow you lads will no were im going wrong. once again thanks :)
