my mate has used sand for years, one of the best fanciers in the fed, been top prize winner for like 16 out of 17 years, he uses just washed sand, dries it out a little and put that on the floors in the boxes everywhere, he also uses Stalosfan with it.

one thing never use sand from the beach, as it has sand mite in it often, the beach sand is the best as it has lots of minerals, but this is the big problem, the only thing i would do if using it would be to mix with lime or something, but not on its own, i tried it and had to spray my loft with bleach to get rid of the mite.

yeah, you can expect it from beach sand, as it is a nice haven for little creepy crawlys!

I just use the sand from the dirt and gravel company, like they use in cement I think. I always get it in the summer so it can dry out good. It is free if you go shovel it in yourself. The trucks have a spot in the gravel yard where they dump left overs and then it is free. I like it to be six inches deep in the loft and that is usually good for a couple year. I clean it with a kitty litter scoop and disinfect it with a propane weed burner a couple times a month.
