883girl Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 One of my young logans all of a sudden is getting thin feathers around his head, not sure how to describe this really but he was fully feathered and in the last couple of days you can see the pink of its skin. Being a complete novice is this moulting or is there something wrong. Seems fine otherwise and non of the others have it either :-/
883girl Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 i would say it was moulting !!! Cheers Ted, how long does moulting take by the way? :K)
THE FIFER Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 is the skin marked ? if so could be another bird pecking it,
883girl Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 is the skin marked ? if so could be another bird pecking it, Doesn't appear to have any marks on it. This is a picture of it below
THE FIFER Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 looks like moulting, are you feeding conditioning seed, if the birds fit and no other symptoms i think it should be ok, just keep an eye on it for any other symptoms,if it was getting pecked it would be the top of thehead, looks like moulting,
883girl Posted February 27, 2008 Author Report Posted February 27, 2008 Thanks fifer, much appreciated ;D
THE FIFER Posted February 27, 2008 Report Posted February 27, 2008 just double clicked on the photo to get a better look, you can see new featers forming, still in the quills, on the front of the neck as well also on the back of the neck, white birds always look bad when moulting, but just keep an eye on it watch for the new feathers coming out, also would give it some insect powder for safety,
bewted Posted February 28, 2008 Report Posted February 28, 2008 agree with the fifer on this one 883girl !!!
