sardar Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hello, Is chicken feed, layer and broiler feed better for pigeons.
Lennut Tar Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 Hello, Is chicken feed, layer and broiler feed better for pigeons. In simple terms "No" as many of us here know !!!!!!! pigeons will eat most things if they hungry enough etc, & I would never suggest to anyone to feed 100% of the above. "But" These sorts of pellets you mentioned, in most cases have many different vitamins & minerals in them when they are produced etc, so can be of benifit to our pigeons at times ??????? depending on the season so to speak. Myself :P I'm quite happy to use them etc at around 10 to 20% for breeding & 5% basically for the rest of the year & have done so for many years now, & have not found any reason "Yet" why I would not continue, using them. Enjoy.
Guest shadow Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 no pigeons are hard corn feeders
Guest IB Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 I agree with Shadow, pigeons eat grain, if they are fed only pellets it causes problems for the gizzard, there's even a name for it 'something'-itis, sounds like an inflammation of some sort. In my opinion chicken pellets do a totally different job - they are fed to fatten poultry for the table. Can't prove it, but suspect they contain authorised antibiotic growth-promoters, as its a fattening job in as little time as possible that's wanted -can't remember the life-cycles (from Jamie Oliver's TV programme a few weeks ago) hatchling-to-table in something like 30 days? The job we try to do is totally different - we feed to breed and maintain winged athletes. Don't think you can keep pigeons in tip-top racing competition condition by fattening them up with junk food.
Guest chrisss Posted February 21, 2008 Report Posted February 21, 2008 i am feeding a small amount of chicken pellets [about 5%] mixed in with the breeding mixture for the birds that are breeding [all 4 pairs!!!!]this is given about 3 times a week
Guest cloudview Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 you must only feed layers pellets , they are free of any antibiotics , due to eggs going in food chain , also there is every thing they need in the food to thrive and keep producing an egg every day , table birds are fed another type of pellet
